Another modest step towards ideal social security!

In days of yore, kings and emperors used to go in disguise around their kingdoms to ascertain the real opinion of the common people about the governance of the nation and also to know, for themselves, the problems in the field.

In the modern era, various public organisations are set up by the governments to enforce public policy intended to provide various social welfare measures to the public. If the public organisations are to function effectively, “the government should utilize modern methods of feeling the pulse of the public; should sense the currents of opinion and adapt their presentation of policy accordingly; should acquire knowledge of the differential impact of new measures ….” (MacIver R.M – The Modern State- Page 150).

This website, dedicated to the matters on Social Security, is intended to fill the existing gap in this regard. This will serve as a forum for all the stakeholders in various social security organisations of the nation to express their opinions and problems.

The Main issue is How we can undo the damage caused to ESI Corporation. It will certainly bring the ESIC in financial crunch in near future.

The present administration is closing their eye on the biggest crisis the globe is going to encounter in the 21st century. To me it is pottable water and old age. Out of 400 million working population In India hardly cover 40 to 60 million working class are covered by one or other social security system. Remain all left with without anything to fall back on their Old Age. It is hightime for the govt to think in terms of briging all social security system under one umbrela and every citizen should have some social security backing on their retirement/attaining the age of 60+

I am one who has the bottoms-Up view of the functioning of ESIC. It was a pleasant surprise when i came across this blog accidentally. The views are well researched and succinctly expressed.
I was amazed at the wisdom of our elders who could put such an act in place. On papers it seems to be THE best social security system possible. However, things are certainly not rosy at the ground level, specially with the Medical benefits, which causes a lot of heart burn and gives tons of ammunition to those who want to get away with these liabilities of looking after their labour force.
The act certainly needs to be implemented more universally and enforced more ruthlessly rather than being watered down as is being done now. However the concerns of many of the employer’s I meet are quite genuine and thus must be addressed in a more pragmatic manner.
